About Many Glacier Campground

The Many Glacier Campground is located on the east side of Glacier National Park, at an elevation of approximately 4,500 feet. The campground is located about 22 miles from the town of St. Mary and the east entrance to Glacier National Park. Babb, Montana, is the closest community to the Many Glacier Campground and is located approximately 12 miles east of the campground. Babb has a general store, gas station, several restaurants and an U.S. Post Office. Cell phone coverage is not available in the campground. However, limited coverage is available in Babb. All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window. The campground is excellent! It is not well suited for large RV's probably no longer than 30 feet as the sites are small. With that said, the proximity to hiking is perfect. I did not check the bathrooms so I cannot speak to their cleanliness. My only real complaint was that if you stay for 7 days in an RV and need water, you must go to the dump area to refill. There is water nearby where it would be easy to refill without breaking camp however the camp host stopped me in my tracks. (We were camped 20 feet from the faucet). There were however many people filling up 7 gallon containers to take back to their rig to refill while all I had was a hose. There were campers washing dishes under the same faucet even though the sign clearly said no dish washing. The camp host was located next to the water and ignored all other violators. We didn't make a fuss but by the way that he handled the situation really put a damper on our trip.

Very nice campground with a close restroom, shop and general store. 2 tent limit despite the number of people per campsite so plan accordingly. This was a bit of a hurdle for us but we worked it out. This site is a great destination for many popular hikes, all with trailheads nearby :) No cell reception for about 25 minutes so plan accordingly for that as well!

We did not get to enjoy Many Glacier this year, as it was closed to tent camping due to bear activity. Though it is entirely understandable why we were moved to another campground, HOW it happened was rather disappointing, and we ended up in four different campgrounds nowhere near Many Glacier, and nowhere near the hikes we had planned. Make sure you are flexible, and have a back up plan if you are tenting! Our previous experience in MG Campground was perfect!

Reservations are very difficult to obtain at Many Glacier Campground. Those of us in the hinterlands with slow internet connections don't stand a chance. I would like campground reservations to go to a lottery system. However, we were able to snag two nights of someone else's cancellations.
Park staff was very friendly. Campground was clean.
Trails were extremely crowded near trailheads and well-traveled well into backcountry. Everyone seems to be getting out to enjoy their national parks! I hope to get a backcountry permit next year to escape the crowds (which is on a lottery system).
As we left at 6 a.m., there were already 8 cars lined up at the campground entrance to claim the day's non-reservable openings!

We camped with a 24" Born Free motorhome. Campsite was adequately sized with plenty or separation from neighbors. The drive in was ROUGH with many, many, many potholes. Park was extremely crowded with backpackers? and hikers? probably leaving from the hotel area. We did not make it over to the hotel, perhaps next time. Beautiful park. Was surprised to be looking out our motorhome window and seeing a black bear saunter down the road in the middle of the day. Interesting. Glad we had the Scotties inside! Unfortunately we could only stay one day of our three day reservation because my husband forgot to pack his medications and we we nowhere near where they could be obtained. This area is very remote. Roads were being majorly worked on and we were stopped for quite a spell. Should be in better shape our next trip. Hope to be back.

We love Many Glacier Campground. We recommend attending the evening programs if able. They are educational and fun for any age. The campgrounds are very clean and tidy, and the bathrooms are the same.

Policies & Rules

General

  • Make Sure You Book the Correct Campsite! You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. Most campsites and driveways are very small and will not accommodate towed units over 21 feet (6.4 m). A limited number of sites can accommodate towed units 26 to 30 feet (8 to 9 m). Many campsites will not accommodate camper 'slide-outs'. If you must use slide-outs, please make a reservation at St. Mary Campground, located 22 miles (35 km) from Many Glacier and 1/2 mile (.8 km) along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Entrance Fees. The park entrance fee is $35 per vehicle and $20 for hiker or bicyclist. The entrance fee is valid for seven days (and may be purchased upon arrival or in advance). The park honors Interagency annual and lifetime passes. 
  • Food Storage and Wildlife. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking and eating utensils, toiletries, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear resistant lockers located throughout the campground.
  • Rules and Regulations. It is the camper's responsibility to be aware of all Glacier National Park Campground Rules and Regulations
  • Maximum Stay. Camping is limited to 14 days between July 1 and Labor Day, and 30 days between Labor Day and June 30.
  • No Hookups. There are no electric, water or sewer hookups at individual campsites. Shared water spigots are located throughout the campground. One dump station is conveniently located at the entrance to the campground.
  • Generator free sites are # 48 - 59, 71, and # 86- 102. Other sites allow generator use only during the hours of , , and .
  • No Phone or Cell Connectivity. There is no public phone or cell phone coverage in or near Many Glacier Campground. The closest phone service is 12 miles (19 km) east in the town of Babb, MT.
  • Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
