About Many Glacier Campground

The Many Glacier Campground is located on the east side of Glacier National Park, at an elevation of approximately 4,500 feet. The campground is located about 22 miles from the town of St. Mary and the east entrance to Glacier National Park. Babb, Montana, is the closest community to the Many Glacier Campground and is located approximately 12 miles east of the campground. Babb has a general store, gas station, several restaurants and an U.S. Post Office. Cell phone coverage is not available in the campground. However, limited coverage is available in Babb. All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window. We arrived in the morning, expecting our campsite to be waiting for us, only to discover that someone else was set-up in our site. My name was on the post, but that didn't deter the occupants, who never arrived back at the site until the threat of being ousted had passed. Apparently, despite my pre-reservation and payment, we were not able to stay in the site we payed for! Fortunately, the camp host was able to put us in the last, unoccupied spot - a group camping spot that we shared with another couple. We were unable to utilize the fire-pit (as they were already set up next to it) and merely slept there for the night. We will not return to this campground or recommend it to anyone.

The campground was beautiful, the people were for the most part very friendly. Loved how this campground was so close to the swift current inn.

However, they desperately need better dishwashing facilities. You're supposed to bring a bucket to wash your dishes but if you don't know that you don't have another choice since you aren't allowed to do them anywhere because of bears. At other bear friendly campgrounds I've stayed at they had a protected area where you could do your dishes with running water and a place to throw away refuse.

Only negative is the 12mile approach road. In dire need of repair. The park is beautiful. Enjoyed bike rides on the roads. Wildlife viewing was spectacular. Get out and hike, it heals your soul.

Policies & Rules

General

  • Make Sure You Book the Correct Campsite! You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. Most campsites and driveways are very small and will not accommodate towed units over 21 feet (6.4 m). A limited number of sites can accommodate towed units 26 to 30 feet (8 to 9 m). Many campsites will not accommodate camper 'slide-outs'. If you must use slide-outs, please make a reservation at St. Mary Campground, located 22 miles (35 km) from Many Glacier and 1/2 mile (.8 km) along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Entrance Fees. The park entrance fee is $35 per vehicle and $20 for hiker or bicyclist. The entrance fee is valid for seven days (and may be purchased upon arrival or in advance). The park honors Interagency annual and lifetime passes. 
  • Food Storage and Wildlife. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking and eating utensils, toiletries, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear resistant lockers located throughout the campground.
  • Rules and Regulations. It is the camper's responsibility to be aware of all Glacier National Park Campground Rules and Regulations
  • Maximum Stay. Camping is limited to 14 days between July 1 and Labor Day, and 30 days between Labor Day and June 30.
  • No Hookups. There are no electric, water or sewer hookups at individual campsites. Shared water spigots are located throughout the campground. One dump station is conveniently located at the entrance to the campground.
  • Generator free sites are # 48 - 59, 71, and # 86- 102. Other sites allow generator use only during the hours of , , and .
  • No Phone or Cell Connectivity. There is no public phone or cell phone coverage in or near Many Glacier Campground. The closest phone service is 12 miles (19 km) east in the town of Babb, MT.
  • Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
