Drive-in tent-only campsiteShaded by cabbage palms and located on the St. Johns River, the Seminole Ranch Conservation Area's "Hatbill" campsite is perhaps the District's most in-demand campsite year-round, especially by anglers and boaters.This popular tent-only campsite is equipped with a fire ring, two benches, a covered pavilion, picnic table and two grills. A non-potable water pitcher pump and portable toilet are located within the campsite.Only primitive tent camping is allowed. RVs and campers of all types and sizes are prohibited at District campsites.Up to 10 passenger vehicles are allowed at the campsite. When booking the campsite, provide the makes, models and license plate numbers of all vehicles that will access the campsite. Each must be listed in full on the vehicle permit.Reservations may be made up to 90 days in advance but must be made at least 48 hours ahead. Adjacent to the campsite is an inclement weather shelter to provide safety for boaters on the river. This shelter is not part of the campsite and cannot be reserved.The property is located off Highway 46, approximately 4 miles west of I-95, on Hatbill Road. The gate to the Hatbill campsite is 3.8 miles after the pavement ends. Further south on the same road is Hatbill County Park.Year-round recreational activities at Seminole Ranch Conservation Area include fishing, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, boating, bicycling, wildlife viewing, picnicking and nature study. Visitors often say they enjoy this property because of its sheer size and its open and vast landscape. It includes 12 miles of the St. Johns River and is part of a large group of publicly owned conservation lands in the area that includes the Little-Big Econ State Forest, the Tosohatchee State Reserve and the St. Johns National Wildlife Refuge.Within the property are more than 4 miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail. Hikers should check hunt dates before setting out, as the southwestern 6,000 acres of this conservation area comprise the Seminole Ranch Wildlife Management Area, which is seasonally hunted.
